Mompreneur Life: an Interview with Amber from The Sensible Mama

Meet Amber!
A boutique-owning mama who's on a mission to educate, equip, inspire and share!

We chatted with Amber from The Sensible Mama about her success as a boutique owner, her favorite products and more!

Q: Why did you decide to start The Sensible Mama?

A: After completing my PhD, I took a corporate job in line with my degree that required 80 hours of work per week or more. I met my husband there, and we quickly decided we wanted kids. I desired to be a full time mom, and my corporate career was not going to lend itself to that. Together, my husband and I agreed that we would figure out how to live on one income while I started a business that would allow me to have a career I love while still being at home with my children.  That’s when The Sensible Mama was born!

Q: What does your typical day took like?

A: My days mostly involve caring for my kids, working on promoting my brand, and engaging with customers. I like that we are still small enough that I can have such a personal relationship with them.

Q: How did you first find out about Itzy Ritzy?

A: From my customers, actually. We let customers steer the ship when it comes to the brands we stock. As soon as I started my business, I had tons of requests to carry the Itzy Ritzy brand. So naturally I wanted to get on board!

Q: What do you like about working with Itzy Ritzy?

A: This is the easiest question of them all. I like working with Itzy Ritzy because they love their retailers and it shows. I feel like I have a partner who genuinely wants me to be successful. When I have a question, I can reach Kristy or Lindsey by email or by phone and always have an answer within a few hours (if not right away). I truly feel that Itzy Ritzy is special in their dedication to retailers. You just don’t see their level of customer service anywhere else.

Q: What is your favorite Itzy Ritzy product?

A: The Triple Threat diaper bag in the Black Herringbone print. It is my go-to bag because it works great as a diaper bag but also looks so fabulous as a hand bag when I don’t have my kids.

Q: What is your top piece of advice for running a successful boutique/website?

A: Have a strong social media strategy. People buy from PEOPLE, not from brands. Focus your energy on making potential customers fall in love with you as a person, and they will fall in love with your brand on their own. That’s what makes social media such a powerful tool for growing a business. You get to show people a side of yourself that they can relate to. And when they see a bit of themselves in you, they want to get to know you and support your brand. Best of all, you get to meet people you otherwise would have never met. You turn strangers into friends, then friends into customers. What could be better than that?
